Airport Master Plan Study -- Russ Volk, C.M., Airpo rt Manager and Octavio A. Garza, P.E, C.P.M., P ublic Works Director.
ITEM SUMMARY:
The Geo rgetown Municipal Airpo rt Master P lan Study is being undertaken to evaluate the airpo rt's capability and ro le, to
forecast future aviation demand, and to plan for the timely development of new or e xpanded facilities that may be re quired
to meet that demand. The ultimate goal of the Master Plan is to pro vide systematic guidelines for the airport's ove rall
maintenance, de velopment, and operation.
The Master Plan is intended to be a pro active document which identifies and then plans fo r future facility needs well in
advance of the actual need for the facilities. This is done to ensure that Airport manageme nt can coordinate proje c t
approvals, design, financing, and construction to avoid experiencing detrimental effects due to inadequate facilities.
The discussion to day is to provide an update on the progress o f the Airport Master Plan Study.

Preliminary Considerations
FAA Design Criteria for Airport
•Current FAA Design Aircraft for main runway is C-II
C-II = Medium Business Jet
-Approach Category (A-E, approach speed)
-Airplane Design Group (I-VI, wingspan/tail height)
•Current FAA Design Airport for secondary runway is B-II
•Design Aircraft determines applicable design standards
Falcon 50
Challenger 300
•5,500-7,600 feet is recommended for a typical
Georgetown Municipal situation
•Existing land use constraints limit runway length at
Georgetown to 6,000’, of which 5,500’ would be
available for takeoff and current 5,000 feet for landing
•Recommendation is based upon aircraft currently
utilizing Georgetown Airport. Prior Council direction to
not lengthen runway is noted
•No plan to add larger aircraft capability
What about Runway Length?
