It was first brought before Council for project approval on April 28, 2009 and for the Elster contract approval on June 8, 2010 and has been presented or referenced 12 times over the last 2 years. This presentation is to provide a history of the project, what we have accomplished so far, and what remains to be done. The criterium route would be approximately 1 mile in length on a downtown course including the Courthouse Square. The tentative date for the event is the weekend of May 19 – 20, 2012. The date will be set after the board of the Texas Bicycle Racing Association meets later this year to determine the 2012 racing calendar. The projected number of racers is 500 and the projected number of spectators is 1,500. In addition to the downtown criterium race, organizers are planning to add a non-competitive recreational ride with varying course lengths and a mountain bike time trial race around Lake Georgetown.
