PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, we must safeguard schools and communities for our children through our recognition of
the serious issues that face them each day by offering our children an environment that holds promise and
security; and
WHEREAS, our children are impacted daily by physical and verbal aggression of their peers and
experience the loneliness that comes from being excluded and made the target of rumors and cyber-bullying;
and
WHEREAS, it is important that we heighten awareness of the serious issues and the negative effects
of bullying, including the long-term damage it can cause in our youth, as well as the risk of teenage suicide;
and
WHEREAS, providing a safe physical and emotional environment is a significant goal and personal
responsibility of each individual; and
WHEREAS, we encourage all to participate in the Out of the Darkness Walk on October 18, 2015 at
the Texas State Capitol Grounds at 9:00 a.m.; and
WHEREAS, it is time to bring an end to bullying.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, DALE ROSS, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN,
TEXAS, do hereby proclaim the month of October, 2015 as:
NATIONAL BULLYING PREVENTION MONTH
