PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, there are 28 million small businesses in the United States which outnumber
corporations 1162 to 1; and
WHEREAS, small businesses employ 49.2% of the country’s private work force; and
WHEREAS, small businesses pay 42% of the United States payrolls; and
WHEREAS, only 2% of small businesses are franchises, most are home-based; and
WHEREAS, 60% - 80% of all new jobs come from small businesses; and
WHEREAS, there are approximately 3,000 small businesses located here in Georgetown;
and
WHEREAS, at least 90% of the members of the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and the
Downtown Georgetown Association are small businesses; and
WHEREAS, “Shop Small Treasure Hunt” is the theme for Small Business Saturday in
celebration of Southwestern University’s 175th Anniversary and will be celebrated this year at the
Shop Small Spree event from 10 am – 1 pm on November 28th, cosponsored by the Downtown
Georgetown Association, the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce, Southwestern University and
the Georgetown Main Street Program.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, DALE ROSS, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN,
TEXAS, do hereby proclaim Saturday, November 28, 2015, as
SMALL BUSINESS SATURDAY
