HomeMy WebLinkAboutTeen Court Program_11.2015 PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, the Georgetown Teen Court Program is in its 23rd year and is a cooperative program between the City of Georgetown and local school districts; and WHEREAS, this year the Teen Court Program will have 14 Teen Court settings with six cases being set each session, with a total case load of 84 cases. Cases are prosecuted and defended by volunteer Teen Attorneys. A Teen Jury hearing the case will impose a sentence consisting of community service and jury terms; and WHEREAS, the Program receives its support from the City of Georgetown, with no outside donations or funding allowed. Each year, at the Teen Court training and the year-end banquet, Teen Court receives support from the Georgetown Police Department, Georgetown ISD, local Judges and Prosecutors; and WHEREAS, the City of Georgetown continues to support the Teen Court Program through encouragement, participation, and promotion of the Program. This can be seen by the increased number of Volunteer Attorneys and Jurors, which has led to the Program winning the prestigious Spotlight Award for 2015; and WHEREAS, this award is given each year by the Teen Court Association of Texas (TCAT) to one court in Texas that has shown the most progress, innovation and achievement NOW, THEREFORE, I, DALE ROSS, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN, TEXAS, do hereby recognize, congratulate and commend the 2015-2016 GEORGETOWN TEEN COURT
