HomeMy WebLinkAboutManufacturing Day_10.2016 PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, Manufacturing supports 17.4 million U.S. jobs and provides career opportunities for engineers, designers, machinists, computer programmers and more; and WHEREAS, Manufacturing Day is an annual event, celebrated on the first Friday in October, during which manufacturers open their doors to showcase the potential of modern manufacturing and foster interest in manufacturing careers; and WHEREAS, Manufacturing is making a comeback in the United States; company initiatives, as well as federal and state policies, support new technologies that make American manufacturing globally competitive, creating businesses and jobs across the country; and WHEREAS, the annual average national salary of manufacturing workers is more than $77,000, manufacturers have the highest job tenure in the private sector, and 90 percent of manufacturing workers have medical benefits; WHEREAS, Georgetown is home to 71 manufacturers who employ Georgetown citizens and contribute to the economy of our great City; NOW, THEREFORE, I, DALE ROSS, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN, TEXAS, do hereby proclaim Friday, October 7, 2016 as MANUFACTURING DAY In Georgetown, Texas
