PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, Young Life was founded in 1941, when a young pastor, Jim Rayburn, decided it was
time for people of faith to step outside the church building and walk across the street to the local high school,
convinced this was the best way to reach kids who otherwise might never hear an accurate account of the
Gospel; and
WHEREAS, in 2016 Young Life will celebrate its’ 75th Anniversary and Georgetown Young Life will
celebrate its’ 5th Anniversary of entering the world of kids; and
WHEREAS, Young Life is a world-wide organization for middle, high school and college students,
focusing on what matters to them – fun, adventure, friendship and a sense of significance, while sharing with
them the truth about God and His love for us; and
WHEREAS, Young Life has more than 4,000 staff and 65,000 volunteers and is active in more than
100 countries reaching more than one million kids annually; and
WHEREAS, through weekly meetings, called “club”, small groups, summer camps, weekend
excursions and one-on-one time with kids, Young Life leaders build unconditional relationships with
teenagers and model God’s love; and
WHEREAS, the City of Georgetown wishes to thank and honor the Young Life Leaders for being that
person who keeps showing up, cheering on these teenagers when things are good and listening to them when
things are not..
NOW, THEREFORE, I, DALE ROSS, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN,
TEXAS, do hereby proclaim Tuesday, February 9, 2016
