PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s National Main Street Center program grew
out of the realization that a community is only as strong as its core. The program emphasizes preservation,
economic development, and promotion of downtown districts; and
WHEREAS, the Great American Main Street Award is the highest recognition given out by the
National Trust for Historic Preservation’s National Main Street Center to honor communities that exemplify
the use of the Main Street Approach to revitalize their downtowns; and
WHEREAS, in 1997 the City of Georgetown became the first Texas city to receive the Great American
Main Street Award and today remains one of only two Texas cities to be recognized with this award; and
WHEREAS, the Georgetown Main Street Program has and will continue to be a successful model of
community engagement and business partnerships committed to creating an exciting place to live, work, play
and visit.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, DALE ROSS, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN,
TEXAS, do hereby congratulate the Main Street Program and celebrate the City of Georgetown’s
20-YEAR ANNIVERSARY as a
GREAT AMERICAN MAIN STREET CITY
