PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, the ADA created a promise to people with disabilities to take actions to ensure their
inclusiveness in every aspect of community life; and
WHEREAS, the ADA prohibits discrimination against people with disabilities in employment,
transportation, public accommodations, commercial facilities, telecommunications and state and local
government services; and
WHEREAS, we recognize that 13% of the City of Georgetown’s total population live with a disability,
representing approximately 7,513 people: 4.7% with a hearing disability, 1.7% with a vision impairment,
4.7% with a cognitive difficulty and 7.4% with an ambulatory difficulty; and
WHEREAS, 1,159 out of 6,856 veterans living in Georgetown, or approximately 17%, have a service
connected disability; and
WHEREAS, the City of Georgetown is committed to developing and/or executing plans to meet that
promise.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, DALE ROSS, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN,
TEXAS, do hereby July, 2017 as
ADA AWARENESS MONTH
