PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, there are over 9.2 million horses in the United States; and
WHEREAS, it is estimated that each year over 170,000 horses go unwanted by their owners; and
WHEREAS, over 60% of equine rescue and retirement facilities are near or at full capacity; and
WHEREAS, horses that are unwanted or in transition are at risk for abuse, neglect, starvation or
slaughter; and
WHEREAS, each year the ASPCA’s Help a Horse Day celebration promotes awareness of and ways
to help horses at risk.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, DALE ROSS, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN,
TEXAS, do hereby proclaim April 26, 2017 as:
HELP A HORSE DAY
