PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, the City of Georgetown, Office of Emergency Management and Homeland
Security, has been established to coordinate with the emergency response agencies and the public
to protect life and property from the effects of major emergencies and disasters through mitigation,
preparedness, response and recovery actions; and
WHEREAS, each year brings the potential threat for natural disasters or human-caused
emergencies to the Georgetown, Texas area; and
WHEREAS, the public remains largely unaware and unprepared for possible disasters and
other life-threatening emergencies in their own community; and
WHEREAS, government agencies and disaster organizations cannot bear the sole
responsibility to prepare for and respond to disasters; and
WHEREAS, National Preparedness Month is a nationwide effort held each September to
raise awareness about the importance of planning for all types of disasters, and to encourage
Americans to learn more about preparedness at home and in their community.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, DALE ROSS, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN, TEXAS, do
hereby proclaim September 2017, as
NATIONAL PREPAREDNESS MONTH
