HomeMy WebLinkAboutTexas Capital Chapter 1919 Military Order of the Purple Heart_04.2017 PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, we recognize the hallmark of the Military Order of the Purple Heart and its programs which improve the lives of Veterans, their families, and communities in which they live; and WHEREAS, the Military Order of the Purple Heart wishes to keep alive the memory of our founding fathers and to honor the memory of George Washington, who instituted the Purple Heart on August 7, 1782; and WHEREAS, the Military Order of the Purple Heart raises funds for service, welfare and rehabilitation for any wounded, handicapped or disabled veteran and his spouse or other survivors; and WHEREAS, the City of Georgetown, Texas, being the first Purple Heart City in the state, calls on Texans everywhere to recognize the extraordinary contributions that the Military Order of the Purple Heart has made to our history; and WHEREAS, almost two million Americans have been wounded since World War One, defending our Country’s freedoms; all gave some and some gave all. NOW, THEREFORE, I, DALE ROSS, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN, TEXAS, do hereby proclaim April 22, 2017 as TEXAS CAPITAL CHAPTER 1919 THE MILITARY ORDER OF THE PURPLE HEART DAY In Georgetown, Texas
