PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, Dr. Bob Soulen was the Chair of Chemistry Department at Southwestern University
with a tenure of 32 years, educating untold thousands of students; and
WHEREAS, Bob Soulen founded Southwestern’s Brown Symposium Series, which is still active
today; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Soulen served as a Board Member of the American Chemical Society for 30 years,
was appointed as a Fellow by the ACS, was a board member of the Georgetown Housing Authority, taught
Sunday school at First Methodist Church, where he was also a choir member, and is currently the Finance
Chair and Board Member of Estrella ; and
WHEREAS, Lola Soulen is an exemplary mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, serving
many years as a Pink Lady, PEO Member, Tri Delta member, Sunday school teacher, Brownie Leader and
Southwestern water aerobics participant; and
WHEREAS, Lola is known to deliver lilies to homebound church members at Easter and Christmas
and visits homebound members throughout the year; and
WHEREAS, the City of Georgetown is fortunate to call this extraordinary couple their own and
wishes to thank the Soulens for their contributions to our fine community.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, DALE ROSS, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN,
TEXAS, do hereby proclaim August 16, 2018 as
BOB AND LOLA SOULEN DAY
