PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, the State of Texas, Office of the Governor, recognizes that drug and alcohol abuse are
barriers for many Texans in living successful and productive lives and that drug courts provide individuals the
opportunity to change by providing non-violent offenders with stern intervention, intensive supervision,
focused treatment and rehabilitation; and
WHEREAS, Drug Courts are cost effective, according to a study by the National Association of
Drug Court Professionals, which shows that drug courts can reduce recidivism by as much as 26% and
provide taxpayers with an average of $2.21 in direct savings for every dollar invested; and
WHEREAS, the Williamson County DWI/Drug Court has been in existence for 11 years and has an
81.3% program success rate, with 46 participants currently enrolled and 354 successful graduates of the
program who have returned to productive lives in our communities, resulting in improved public safety; and
NOW, THEREFORE, I, DALE ROSS, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN,
TEXAS, do hereby proclaim May, 2018 as:
NATIONAL DRUG COURT MONTH
