PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, James Herman Ramay was born on March 15, 1918 near Fort Smith Arkansas; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Ramay graduated from Ozark Arkansas High School in 1935 and Ouachita Baptist
College in 1939 with a degree in Chemistry and Math; and
WHEREAS, Ramay worked for General Electric and worked with the crew who developed
fluorescent light; and
WHEREAS, James Ramay was drafted into the Army on March 17, 1941 where he was commissioned
as Ordnance Officer and remained as an instructor in heavy artillery until he was transferred to Rock Island
Arsenal, Illinois and remained until the end of World War II; and
WHEREAS, Ramay met his wife, Sue Rogers in Albany, New York and was married on January 9,
1945; James and Sue had two wonderful children, Michael and Lynne; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Ramay enjoyed a long military career with many transfers in both the U.S. and
overseas, traveling extensively with his family to many interesting and enjoyable places, including historical
areas; and
WHEREAS, James Herman Ramay celebrates his 100th Birthday on March 15, 2018.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, DALE ROSS, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN,
TEXAS, do hereby proclaim March 15, 2018 as
JAMES RAMAY DAY
