PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, The Georgetown Independent School District’s (GISD) Vision is to be the home of the most
inspired students, served by the most empowered leaders. Its Mission is to inspire and empower every learner to
lead, grow, and serve. GISD believes instruction should be designed and based on the needs of the learners; and
WHEREAS, GISD offers the Capstone Program to empower students to pursue something that interests
them and to grow their knowledge and expertise. And Ashlee Reed has had a love of filmmaking since the age of
8 and is a junior at Georgetown High School. She pursued a short film as her Capstone project in the 2018-2019
school year at Georgetown High School; and
WHEREAS, Ashlee Reed explored the school ranking system after selecting “Competition” as the theme
of her film. The short film explores how important class rank can be to students and the impact a number can
have on their mental and physical health through a dramatization of how far students “mentally beat themselves
up over grades” to maintain class rank and preserve opportunities to be eligible to be accepted into a university;
and
WHEREAS, Ashlee spent countless hours working on the short film and giving credit to others for
assisting her in many roles, the production was accepted into the inaugural GTX Film Festival in April 2019 and
was accepted for showing in the student-centric Pegasus Film Festival in Dallas in May 2019.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, DALE ROSS, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN, TEXAS, do hereby
proclaim, Tuesday, May 28, 2019 as
ASHLEE REED “STUDENT MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS” DAY
