HomeMy WebLinkAboutJim Briggs Day_09.2019 PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, Jim Briggs began with the City in 1986 as the public works engineer helping to construct the Lake Water Treatment Plant. At the time, the City had 6,000 water customers and 7,000 electric customers. Today, Georgetown has more than 45,000 water customers and 25,000 electric customers, a 650 and 250 percent increase, respectively; and WHEREAS, in 1989 he was promoted to the director of public utilities and was promoted again in 2000 to the assistant city manager for utility operations. In 2010, Jim was named the General Manager of utilities. Jim’s leadership has taken the city utility and public works through a period of tremendous growth and change; and WHEREAS, throughout his career Jim has served on various utility planning boards, professional organizations, and trade associations. Jim’s list of accomplishments is too long to list here. However, he was named Citizen of the Year by The Williamson County Sun in 2014 and awarded the Chamber of Commerce Cornerstone Award for Economic Development in 2017; and WHEREAS, Jim is a proud graduate of Texas A&M University and promotes those Aggies, letting us all know that “it is what it is, whatever it is” and sharing stories and whatnots in his own way of connecting with everyone he meets. Jim’s character has certainly left an indelible impression on this community; and WHEREAS, the Mayor and the City of Georgetown would like to pay tribute to Jim Briggs and his unique contributions and celebrate a great public servant whose work will certainly be appreciated well beyond the next thirty years. NOW, THEREFORE, I, DALE ROSS, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN, TEXAS, do hereby proclaim, September 27, 2019 as JIM BRIGGS APPRECIATION DAY In Georgetown, Texas
