HomeMy WebLinkAboutPaulette Taylor Day_10.2019 PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, Paulette Taylor developed a love of learning at an early age, even though she only had secondhand textbooks at the segregated school Marshall-Carver, and upon her graduation from Prairie View A&M, she turned her love of learning into a love of teaching; and WHEREAS, Paulette taught Special Education at Westside Elementary for 31 years, much of that time, she ran tutoring programs after school at the Willie Hall Center, a multipurpose facility owned by Georgetown Cultural Citizen Memorial Association. Paulette also offered College Readiness programs at Willie Hall. As part of her work for GCCMA, Paulette aids in managing the Shotgun House Museum, which promotes the African-American history of Georgetown; and WHEREAS, the Austin Area Urban League recognized Paulette Taylor in September 2019 with the Whitney M. Young, Jr Award as an advocate for Central Texas civil rights, equal opportunities and social justice; and WHEREAS, the Mayor and the City of Georgetown would like to recognize Paulette Taylor for exemplifying Whitney M. Young, Jr.’s legacy in her effort to engage Georgetown community members and leaders from diverse groups in identifying and solving community problems while honoring the past and innovating for the future. NOW, THEREFORE, I, DALE ROSS, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN, TEXAS, do hereby proclaim, October 8, 2019 as PAULETTE TAYLOR APPRECIATION DAY In Georgetown, Texas
