PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, Wesley Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church (AMEC) at 508 W. 4th Street,
Georgetown, TX will kick-off its Sesquicentennial Church Anniversary on Sunday, September 15, 2019
where the Pastor, Rev. Dr. William A. Quickley will exhort members to continue their sacred heritage using
the celebration theme: “Unless the Lord Builds the House” and the Rev. Rodrecus Johnson, Jr. , Pastor,
Anderson Chapel A.M.E. Church, Killeen, TX will encourage perseverance for continued labor, service and
witness internationally; and
WHEREAS, Wesley’s Church condensed history consists of formal organization in 1869, the current
church building was erected in 1904, the dining hall was built in 1968 and the Church was listed as a Texas
Historical Landmark in 1984, and entered in the National Registry of Historic Places in 1986; and
WHEREAS, the Mission of Wesley Chapel A.M.E. Church is to minister to the “social, spiritual and
physical development of all people, to seek out and save the lost, and to serve the needy” which has been
accomplished globally, throughout Texas and in the Georgetown community, initiated by the officers under
the Steward leadership of Joyce Gadison; and
WHEREAS, the Wesley Church family has been faithful to the principles of their founders, has
committed to a renewed vision that perpetuates due diligence to the favor of God, and reaffirms their
commitment to remain steadfast contributors to this fine community which finds it fitting and proper to
observe a day set aside to acknowledge the important legacy Wesley Church has established.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, DALE ROSS, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN,
In honor of this Sesquicentennial Celebration do hereby proclaim Sunday, September 15, 2019 as
WESLEY CHAPEL A.M.E. CHURCH DAY
