PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) has been the number one killer of Americans since
1920, with 40 percent of the U.S. population - or more than 100 million Americans - suffering from
some form of CVD in 2015; and
WHEREAS, heart disease remains the leading cause of death and its victims are mothers, fathers,
grandparents, siblings, friends, and children; and
WHEREAS, cardiovascular disease costs the United States more than $555 billion each year
through healthcare services, medications, and lost productivity; and
WHEREAS, the American Heart Association’s 2035 impact goals seek to improve cardiovascular
health of all Americans by twenty percent while reducing deaths from cardiovascular diseases and
strokes by twenty percent through research, community level interventions and preventions, and
public health policy measures; and
WHEREAS, the Georgetown Fire Department is committed to improving the safety and health of
the community through prevention, education, and response services;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, DALE ROSS, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN, TEXAS,
do hereby recognize February 2020 as
AMERICAN HEART MONTH
