HomeMy WebLinkAboutAnimal Control Appreciation_04.2021 PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, the Georgetown Animal Shelter has a live release or save rate of 94 percent and is the best possible outcome for any homeless animal. In 2020, more than 24 percent of the animals in the Georgetown shelter were returned to their owners, including 316 dogs and 30 cats; 51 percent of the animals were adopted, including 399 cats, 316 dogs and 12 others (rabbits, hamsters, guinea pigs, etc.), 74 animals were transferred to rescue organizations and 197 animals were fostered by volunteers; and WHEREAS, Georgetown Animal Control Officers encounter sick, lost, aggressive, and injured animals daily. They work on public safety issues and perform bite quarantines and rabies prevention activities. They educate and teach the public how to provide better care for their pets, by sending animals to rescue groups when needed, conducting behavior assessments, seeking trainers, providing medical care and presenting animals on social media; and WHEREAS, the National Animal Control Officer Appreciation Week is celebrated every April and is endorsed by the National Animal Care and Control Association. We take this opportunity to thank the Georgetown Animal Control Officers for being the everyday heroes they are and for making every life matter.
