PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, the Georgetown Area Assistance League was chartered in July 2001, as the 108th chapter of
Assistance League. The 100-percent volunteer-based organization is dedicated to transforming the lives
of children and adults through community programs, and
WHEREAS, in July 2001, the Operation School Bell® program was adopted and executed in partnership
with Walmart Super Center and which provides children in the Georgetown, Florence and Jarrell
Independent School Districts with new school clothing and shoes to improve their self-esteem, promote
learning and encourage regular attendance; and
WHEREAS, the Georgetown Area Assistance League also participates and supports the Reading and
More program providing reading mentors for area second graders, the Scholarship Program to aid
graduating seniors in area high schools, giving over $250,000 in scholarships to 46 very deserving
Seniors; and launched the Assist a Teacher program in august 2016 to provide first-time, first-year
elementary school teachers with supplies to enhance their classroom; and
WHEREAS, the Assistance League is funded primarily by the Thrift Shop, which is run by 150+
volunteers donating almost 18,000 hours of time in the past year; and
WHEREAS, during the last fiscal year, Assistance League of Georgetown Area provided 2,260
Georgetown area students with new school clothing and shoes, donated 3,660 books to local elementary
schools, awarded scholarships to area high school seniors, and provided 21 first year elementary school
teachers with financial assistance.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOSH SCHROEDER, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN, TX,
do hereby proclaim September 20, 2021
