HomeMy WebLinkAboutElizabeth Hinds for Friends of Animal Shelter_08.2021 PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, Elizabeth Hinds has been a kitten foster for the Georgetown Animal Shelter since June 6, 2016, after reading an article in the Williamson County Sun about the shelter needing foster support from the community; and WHEREAS, Elizabeth cares for an average of 35 kittens per year, totaling more than 175 kittens over the last 5 years, with as many as 13 neonatal kittens at one time requiring around the clock care, including bottle feeding every 2 hours; and WHEREAS, she is willing to take on any kitten in need, accepting kittens so young they still have their eyes and ears closed and an attached umbilical cord; and WHEREAS, in 2019, she had a litter of kittens with severe reflux, requiring additional care when feeding. In order to continue to care for her family and the kittens, she propped the kittens up in the front pocket of her overalls after feeding so they could digest their food without becoming ill; and WHEREAS, while these kittens went on to be adopted, not all leave her home. She adopted four kitten foster fails, a chihuahua, and mouse from the Georgetown Animal Shelter. Fostering saves the lives of neonatal and pee wee kittens, provides a safe and healthy environment for kittens to grow, relieves the stress of kittens, and creates space in shelters for other animals in need. NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOSH SCHROEDER, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN, TEXAS, do hereby take this opportunity to thank Elizabeth Hinds for being the everyday hero that she is and for making every kitten life matter.
