HomeMy WebLinkAboutNational Hispanic Heritage Month_09.2021 PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, the national observation of Hispanic Heritage Week began in 1968, and September 15 through October 15 was established as National Hispanic Heritage Month in 1988, and WHEREAS, National Hispanic Heritage Month traditionally honors the cultures and contributions of both Hispanic and Latino Americans as we celebrate heritage rooted in all Latin American countries. During this month and throughout the year, the National Park Service and our partners, share history, heritage, and accomplishments of Hispanic and Latino Americans of past and present; and WHEREAS, September 15 is significant because it is the anniversary of independence for Latin American countries Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua while Mexico and Chile celebrate their independence days on September 16 and September 18, respectively; and WHEREAS, the City of Georgetown recognizes that the celebration of every culture in the City’s vision statement of “A caring community honoring our past”; and WHEREAS, the Hispanic community of Georgetown has contributed to the thriving economy of the City through business ownership and leadership; and the City in partnership with the San Jose and Track Ridge Grasshopper neighborhoods, is engaged in a planning process that celebrates the culture and history of Hispanic residents of Georgetown. NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOSH SCHROEDER, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN, TX, do hereby proclaim September 15 to October 15, 2021 NATIONAL HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH In Georgetown, Texas
