HomeMy WebLinkAboutNational Preservation Month Proclamation_05.2021 PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, historic preservation is an effective tool for managing growth and sustainable development, revitalizing commercial districts, fostering local pride and maintaining community character while enhancing livability; and WHEREAS, historic preservation is relevant for communities across the nation, both urban and rural, and for Americans of all ages, all walks of life and all ethnic backgrounds; and WHEREAS, it is important to celebrate the role of history in our lives and the contributions made by dedicated individuals in helping to preserve the tangible aspects of the heritage that has shaped us as a people; and WHEREAS, the Mileham Building celebrates its 130th birthday, the MB Lockett Building celebrates its 125th birthday, the PH Dimmitt Building celebrates its 120th birthday, the Williamson County Courthouse and the Farmers State Bank Building (Williamson Museum) celebrate their 110th birthday, and the U.S. Post Office Building celebrates its 90th birthday; and WHEREAS, "This Place Matters” is the local theme for National Preservation Month 2021, co-sponsored by the Georgetown Main Street Program, Georgetown Historic and Architectural Review Commission, The Williamson Museum, Preservation Georgetown, and the National Trust for Historic Preservation. NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOSH SCHROEDER, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN, TEXAS, do hereby proclaim May 2021, as NATIONAL PRESERVATION MONTH In Georgetown, Texas
