PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, since 1981 National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week is celebrated across the
U.S. to recognize those who help save lives in times of personal, local or national crisis; and
WHEREAS, the work performed by public safety telecommunicators is nothing short of
extraordinary, and the COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted their dedication and the lifesaving nature
of their work. The men and women who serve as Public Safety Telecommunicators, such as 911
operators and dispatchers, are often the first people contacted when emergency assistance is needed;
and
WHEREAS, during the February 2021 weather event these men and women responded to over
5000 calls for not only several medical emergency calls, such as falls on the ice, but also took calls of
pipes bursting, houses flooding and ceilings caving in. Many operators stayed at the emergency center
to take calls and assist other departments with calls while their own families were also without power
and water, working together as an outstanding team; and
WHEREAS, during emotional times and throughout the year, their diligent efforts, specialized
skills, calmness, and caring presence are invaluable in ensuring help is on the way when it is needed
the most and they exemplify the motto, “Georgetown Cares”.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOSH SCHROEDER, MAYOR
OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN, TEXAS,
do hereby proclaim April 11 through April 17, 2021 as:
