HomeMy WebLinkAboutBreast Cancer Awareness Month_10.2022 PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, October is recognized nationally across the United States as Breast Cancer Awareness month; and WHEREAS, Breast Cancer is the #1 cancer in women and the most diagnosed cancer in Texas women and the second leading cause of death; and WHEREAS, the U.S. Preventive Service Task Force (USPSTF) recommends a screening mammogram every other year for women ages 50-74 years who are at average risk for breast cancer, and advises women in their forties to discuss screening with their doctor based on personal risk; and WHERAS, Addressing Cancer Together, a program powered by United Way for Greater Austin is dedicated to increasing access to breast cancer screening and care in three central Texas counties, and Williamson County has dedicated American Rescue Plan Act funding to expand access to screening, diagnosis, and treatment for uninsured women. NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOSH SCHROEDER, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN, TEXAS do hereby proclaim, October 2022 as BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH and I encourage all women who have not received their recommended screening to make an appointment to get a preventative screening mammogram provided free of charge through available resources and health insurance.
