PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, historic preservation is an effective tool for managing growth and sustainable
development, revitalizing commercial districts, fostering local pride, and maintaining community
character while enhancing livability; and
WHEREAS, historic preservation is relevant for communities across the nation, both urban and
rural, and for Americans of all ages, all walks of life and all ethnic backgrounds; and
WHEREAS, it is important to celebrate the role of history in our lives and the contributions
made by dedicated individuals in helping to preserve the tangible aspects of the heritage that has
shaped us as a people; and
WHEREAS, the Georgetown Main Street Program, one of the oldest programs in the State;
celebrates its 40th year as a member of the Texas Historical Commission’s Texas Main Street Program
and Preservation Georgetown (formerly Georgetown Heritage Society), whose mission is to preserve
and promote interest in Georgetown’s heritage celebrates its 45th anniversary; and
WHEREAS, "Saving Places” is the theme for National Preservation Month 2022, co-sponsored
by the Georgetown Main Street Program, Georgetown Historic and Architectural Review Commission,
Preservation Georgetown, The Williamson Museum, and the National Trust for Historic Preservation;
with historic place-savers who pour their time, energy, and resources into protecting places they care
about, often without recognition.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOSH SCHROEDER, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN, TEXAS,
do hereby proclaim May 2022, as
NATIONAL PRESERVATION MONTH
In Georgetown, Texas
