HomeMy WebLinkAboutBetty Schleder_Honor_Flight_08.2013 P R O C L A M A T I O N WHEREAS, Honor Flight is a non-profit organization that transports World War II veterans to Washington, D.C. to visit the memorials established in honor of their service; and WHEREAS, Betty Schleder, a Sun City resident, applied to volunteer for Honor Flight in 2011 on behalf of her husband, also a World War II veteran, and attended the inaugural flight by his side in June 2012; and WHEREAS, after speaking with the Honor Flight administrators during that inaugural flight, Betty was signed on to start working to raise money for the Honor Flight Program throughout Williamson County; and WHEREAS, Betty was in charge of the 2012-2013 Sun City World War II veterans who went on the second Honor Flight; and WHEREAS, since she has joined the program, Betty has worked tirelessly to raise over $120,000 for our World War II veterans, with the help of generous folks in Sun City and Georgetown. NOW, THEREFORE, I, GEORGE GARVER, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN, do hereby proclaim August 13, 2013, as BETTY SCHLEDER DAY in Georgetown, Texas, in gratitude and recognition of her dedication to the Honor Flight program and the wonderful service she has provided to the World War II veterans in Georgetown and Williamson County.
