HomeMy WebLinkAboutOlive Street Historic District Day_10.2013 PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, the Olive Street Historic District located in Georgetown – Williamson County, Texas was recently listed in the National Register of Historic Places; and WHEREAS, extensive research on the history of homes in the Olive Street Historic District was conducted by Georgetown Heritage Society, Valenzuela Preservation Studio and the City of Georgetown with assistance from the Texas Historical Commission (THC) and submitted to the National Register; and WHEREAS, homes in the Olive Street Historic District are known for their historical and architectural significance; and WHEREAS, the neighborhood developed as a result of its close proximity to Southwestern University, which was founded by the Methodist Episcopal Conference in 1870 on property initially plated as the Snyder Addition in 1890; and WHEREAS, notable residents from the 1890s through the present day include numerous professors and staff members affiliated with Southwestern University; and WHEREAS, these architecturally significant houses constructed by prominent builders represent popular architectural styles, the Olive Street Historic District is now formally listed in the National Register for its significance to Southwestern University and for its collection of buildings exemplifying characteristics of Queen Anne, Colonial and Classic Revival, Craftsman, Prairie and postwar Ranch styles; and NOW, THEREFORE, I, GEORGE GARVER, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOWN, TEXAS, do hereby proclaim Thursday, October 17, 2013, as OLIVE STREET HISTORIC DISTRICT DAY
