HomeMy WebLinkAboutTeen Court Recognition_2008-2009 PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, the Georgetown Teen Court program is in it’s 16th year with the largest group of Attorneys participating than in past years, the 2008-2009 program is cooperating with the City of Georgetown, the Georgetown Independent School District, and Williamson County; and WHEREAS, this year the Teen Court program has had 14 Teen Court settings with six cases being set each night, with a total case load of 84 cases. The percentage rate of completion for the 2007-2008 school year was 80% with sentencing consisting of community service and Jury terms; and WHEREAS, the Georgetown Municipal Court is unique in the fact that it requests police officers and witnesses to be present during Teen Court hearings, this program continues to grow with more interest than ever in the amount of cases heard and the amount of volunteer Attorneys participating; and WHEREAS, the program receives its support from the City of Georgetown and no outside donations or funding are allowed. Each year, at the Teen Court training and the year end banquet, Teen Court receives support from the Georgetown Police Department, judges from Williamson County and District courts; and WHEREAS, the most outstanding achievement that Georgetown has made in the last twelve months is the encouragement, participation, and promotion of the program. This can be seen by the increased number of volunteer attorneys which has led to the program winning the prestigious Spotlight Achievement Award for 2008 at the Annual Teen Court Conference held in Odessa last October; and WHEREAS, this award is given each year by (TCAT) Teen Court Association of Texas to one court in Texas that has shown the most progress, innovation, and achievement.
