northwest part of the original Georgetown City Limits jus; beyond the
Carver High School.
It is not known when 'the first grave was made but s,pe are marked,
indicating the date of 1850 and some as late as.1902. I is likely that
no burial has been made there in the past 60 years and frthe rank growth
under -brush and small trees, no care or improvement has b(IDn shown to have
been made.
The Georgetown Committee of the Historical Survey h&L,
to the descendents of those pioneer citizens who are buriA in this
cemetery, to assist in its restoration. Also, local org4izations and
groups, service organizations6and patriotic groups have shi(illai much interest.
The results of the effort has been encouraging.
The Phi Delta Theta fraternity at Southwestern have -3 givers about ,OO
man hours of work in clearing out the under -brush. The Clity has hauled
many truck loads of brush off of the grounds. Cash donations have come
from local citizens and from friends and decendents and fr I
L friends and
decedents from as far away as California and 17irginia and
and El Paso and many other towns in Texas. Local buildin
firms have contibuted fence materials and concrete and it
by 1NIemorial Day, Mats 30th, that the Historical marker can
and the restoration can be complete.
