HomeMy WebLinkAbout1900GtownJosey015Times have certainly changed since this c. 1900 photograph was taken. The standpipe is gone, the
Victorian courthouse and jail to its left are gone, and the ice company wagon no longer delivers
blocks of ice to customers. Horses are rarely seen on the square except for special events. Careful
observers, though, can still see hitching rings in the curbs at some places around the square, and
imagine the days when water troughs and public privies stood outside the courthouse. Today visitors
and residents alike can find tributes to important individuals in Georgetown history detailed on
markers all around the courthouse and on many downtown buildings, serving as reminders of all
who went before. (Johnson/Ellyson Estate.)
