AGENDA ITEM COVER SHEET
Item No. I
SUBJECT:
Consideration and possible action to award a contract to Landmark
Structures of Fort Worth, TX and to approve the budget (in the amount of
$1,290,000.00) for construction of the Jennings Branch Elevated Storage Tank.
ITEM SUMMARY.
The design and engineering of the Jennings Branch Elevated Storage Tank has
been completed by Camp, Dresser, and McKee, Inc (CDM). Sealed bids for the
construction of the tank were received and opened on June 24, 2003. Three
companies presented bids.
Bids were accepted on two possible design options: 1) a composite tank
with concrete column and steel tank; and 2) a fluted column tank made
entirely of steel. The bid pricing for fluted column design was eliminated
from consideration due to the additional maintenance costs (painting)
required for this tank when compared to the composite design.
The design engineer (CDM) has reviewed the bids and has recommended the
award of the bid to Landmark Structures of Fort Worth, TX. Landmarks' bid of
$1,222,000.00 was $6,000.00 more than Caldwell Tank. Caldwell Tank did not
meet the experience level required in the specifications, nor did they comply
with the technical specifications regarding construction.
Budget for this project, with contingencies, is $1,290,000.00.
STAFF RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends approval of this contract and project budget in the
amount of $1,290,000.00.
GUS BOARD RECOMMENDATION:
GUS Board recommended Council approval of this item and the slight
increase in the budget to an increase of 1,290,000.00 at their August 19,
