The City Council met in tegularsession_on the above date,
Mayor M. F. Smith presiding_ and .the_ f.ollowing.. aldr.emen -anal officers
were present: Aldermen--F. E. Buchholz-,.J.. R. Chastain:, W. S. Frasier,
S. C. Godbey and S. E. Tilcox. Officers--W. H. Nunn, city attorney;
S. A. - Hodges, tax. -assessor _and.:.eollec.tor.; Albert May., marshal-., .M. L.
Cates, secretary and-R. E. War_d, manager city utilities.
On motion of Alderman Frasier_., . minut.es of the_ previous.. meetings
were read and approved as read.
On Motion of Alderman _Chastain_all.appr.oved_-acc-ounts.were .order-
ed paid.
Mr. Lee If. Taylar_, chairman .of, _the auditing committee . was. .pre sent
and read the reportof_ the .commi.tte.e and. complimented .the_ .councilmen,
and manager of the power and -,light -system -,very highly,..On motion of
Alderman J. C. Godbey the report was.. received. and.filed, and -the. com-
mittee discharged.
City ealth Officer Dr..Talter_,So - art.in reported to the. council
that sanitary conditions in the..city.in gene.ral,were improved.., there
being only a few irregularitiea.to.be.attended_to by the. proper au-
thorities and.cited a cess po.of..in.the.southeast.portion_.o.f the city,
and the bone yard near the .jail.. Dr.... Martin sugge.ate.d..aa..a matter of
caution the public should not drink water from .the.spr_ings at the
San Gabriel Park without. f..irst .boiling it.

On motion _of Alderman J. R. Chastain, seconded _by Alderman
Frasier, the said ordinance containing an emergency clause that the
usual rules for passing ordinances hereafter -be and are suspended,
requiring that the said_Qrdinance only be read by caption., and the
same be passed to its. second reading, was .passed by unanimous. -.vote.
The ordinance was read by capti.on,. and the vote was -as -follows:

On motion of Alderman J. C. Godbey, seconded by Alderman

The Bond of Mi.ss.Estella Byrom/with the following surieties;
H. G. Gillett, D. K. Wilcox, and H. N......Qraves., on.,motion of Alder-
man Chastain, seconded by Alderman Wilcox was approved.
Mayor. Smith'.'�appointed X�.ssers. A. "W. Sillure, C.. C. Hamilton,
and A. W. Gray to, act. as Boards of Tax Equalization. The..Council was.,
unanimous in its approval.
A.petition.was.pr_esented the Council, said petition containing
numerous names_..of citizens, requesting the Council to appoint the city
marshall. as_ street _oommisai.oner_. The petition was referred to the
Street Committeemen, who are,t.a.report their recommendations to the
Council_ at the me8#ing of June U.
On motion of Alderman 1#1 S. Frasier, seconded by Alderman F. E.
Buchholz, by a unanimous vote the council inserted in these minutes
the following, concurring to the Firemen's Pension Law, House Bill
No. 258s
"On May 4th, I9379 a committee composed of mayor !% r.
Smith, Estella Byrom, city treasurer, three members from the Fire
Department, Viz. Bolton Gilliland (3-yearman); James Shaw (two-year
man); and D. K. '7ileox (1-year Sian ; met end organized a Baard of
Firemen�s Relief and Retirement Trustees for Geor etown Firemen.
M. F. Smith was made chairman and D. K. -xlilcox, ace -chairman, and
Estella Byrom, secretary of the organization."
"On May 4th,the Fire Department met and decided they wanted
to participate in the benefits of this organization. Theirb assessment
to be $5.00 per year. The above report of the organization was given
in writing to the City Council and requested that it be inserted in
the minutes of the Council. This to be done not later than May 9."
