Meeting Minutes

The Animal Shelter Advisory Board met virtually Thursday, March 11, 2021.
Regular Session — To begin no earlier than 6:00 pm.
(This Regular Session may, at any time, be recessed to convene at Executive Session for any purpose authorized
by the Open Meetings Act, Texas Goveinnient Code 551).

1® Discussion on how this virtual conference will be conducted, to include options for public comments
and how the public may address the Commission — April Haughey (Board Liaison)
a. April detailed the ways the public can engage with the meeting, told members that roll call votes
would be conducted, and instructed members to "raise their hand" to speak and to identify them-
selves first.
2. Introduction of guest and board members — April Haughey, Animal Services Manager (Board Liaison)
a. Board members introduced themselves to Louise Epstein, guest and prospective board member.
3. Presentation of Animal Services Statistics for February 2021 — April Haughey, Animal Services Man-
ager (Board Liaison)
a. The February spay/neuter event was rescheduled to March 20.
b. 85 total intakes, highest since December, including 21 puppies and kittens.
c. 28 owner surrenders despite 6 day weather shutdown. Adoption rate decreased to 273%.
d. Average LOS decreased slightly; for dogs, 9.38 days, and for cats, 8.36 days, with an overall 12
month LOS of 8.87 days.
e. Euthanasia percentage 99. 1.
f. April presented a ShelterWatch national report showing COVID- I 9's impact on shelter intakes,
adoptions, and foster placement. Our Georgetown shelter statistics are in line with the national
trends.

a. April presented the mural design and the timeline for completion is March 22-2.
b. The facilities improvement schedule is being developed, including new flooring in cat area, the
badge access gate, new drains and addressing the rust in the kennels, food storage enhancements,
and �-IVA prep.
5. Discussion on February 1 weather event and shelter operations --- April Haughey, Animal Services
Manager (Board Liaison)
a. The 6 day closure due to weather and the resultant damage, staff challenges getting to the shelter,
and food delivery problems, has prompted a staff reevaluation of short -and long-term emergency
operations plans.
6. Discussion on open staff positions and current status —e April Haughey, Animal Services Manager
(Board Liaison)
a. ACO candidates have interviews scheduled beginning 3/23.
b. The veterinarian schedule has been set at 16 hours/week. A Zoom interview with the interested can-
didate is scheduled, to be followed by an in -person interview in April
7. Presentation on .Friends of the Georgetown Animal S elter9s participation in Amplify Austin --
a. The Friends' inaugural participation in Amplify Austin raised an impressive $4,500 from 28 donors
with only limited publicity.
7® Consideration and possible action to approve minutes from February, 2021 — Melissa Sheldon, Board

a. Minutes were read by members. Motion to approve, Ned Atkins. Seconded, Bill Gregory. Ap-
proved unanimously.
With no further business or discussion, Laura Klein .Plunkett made a motion to adjourn. Seconded by Bill Greg-
ory.
