HomeMy WebLinkAboutORD 01.12.1920 - Telephone Exchange SystemAN ORDINANCE ANDING SUB -DIVISIONS "A" AND "F" OF SECTION 240, OF AN ORDINANCE PASSED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GEORGETOITN, TEXAS, IN 1911 AND APPROVBD BY TIM YMYOR OF SAID CITY, WHICH WAS AN ORDINANCE AMBNDING SECTION 2 OF AN ORDINANCE PASSED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GBORGBTOWT, TEMAS, GRANTING TO M.S.S`�'T, AND HIS LEGAL ASSIGNS AIM SUCCE=A'-SOBS, A FRANCHISE TO BUILD, CONSTRUCT AND MAINTAIN A LOCAL TELEPHONE EXCHWITGE SYSTEM IN SAID CITY: AND GRANTING TO THE GBORGETOTN TELEPHONE COMPAIY, THE LEGAL SUCCESSOR OF THE- SAID ]M. S. 5�"rF�FT, A CHANGE IN THE AYXIMUM RATE- ATJD RBNTS TO BE CHARGED THE CITIZBNS OF GEORGETOMTq TEXAS, FOR TELEPHONE RENTALS AND SERVICE, DURI':IG ^HE LIFE OF SAID FRANCHISE: BE IT ORDAINED by the City council of the City of Georgetown, Texas: Section 1. That Sub -divisions "A" and "F" of Section 240, of.an ordinance passed 64, the City Council of the City of Georgetown, Texas, in 1911, amending Section 2 of an ordinance granting to M.S. Sweet, and his legal assigns and successors, a franchise to build, construct and maintain a local telephone exchange system, in said City of Georgetown, shall be so amended as to hereafter read as follows: Sub -division "A". That the maximum rates and rentals to be charged the citizens of Georgetown for telephone service, dur- ing the li`e of this franchise, shall not exceed the following for one year contracts: For business and office telephones, 32.50 per month; for residence telephones, $2.00 per month; and an additional rate of 50 cents per month may be charged for less than one year contracts; and any charges in excess of said rates shall immediately forfeit all rights and privileges given by this franchise. Sub -division "F". The said Georgetown Telephone Company, its successors and assigns, shall install and furnish to its subscribers for residence 'phones in this city, when desired by such subscribers, the "Four Party. Selective Service; but such installation and service can be demanded by such subscribers only in groups of four, and the phones of any four subscribers demanding such service shall be so situated as to be conveniently reached by one wire; and the rate for such "Four Party Selective Service" shall be $1.50 per month for each 'Phone. &, aec j(�VW Q T-� OrGl�'�a��CkS 1`120' Iq �`'1 Section 2. That the changes in maximum rates and rentals grant6d in this ordinance are conditioned, that the said Georgetown Telephone Company, its successors and assigns, during the life of this franchise, shall expend the money received by it, as rentals on business, office and residence 'phones, from the subscribers of this city, over and above the upkeep and operating expenses of said telephone system, in repairs and im- provements and betterments on said telephone system, specially specifying the elimination of cross -talk over lines, as far as possible, by installing new cables, lines cross -arms and poles, when and where necessary, and putting the switchboard in such condition as to give good service to its patrons and subscribers; the said Georgetown Telephone Company to begin repairs and im- provements on said local telephone system as early as practicable after the passage of this ordinance, and prosecute the work of repairing and improving said telephone system, as rapidly as practicable until a good and efficient telephone service is given to its patrons and subscribers. Section 3. That this ordinance shall take effect from and after February first A.D. 1920. PASSED AND APPROVED this the 12th, day of January A.D.1920. John It.
