HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes_LAB_02.04.2020Minutes ofthe Meeting ofthe Library Advisory Board City ofGeorgetown February 4,2U28 The Library Advisory Board met on Tuesday, February 4, 2020 at 6:00 p.m. in the staff conference room of the Georgetown Public Library, 402 W, 8 th Street MEMBERS |NATTENDANCE: Lindsay Cooper, Michael Kelley, Richard Thiehnann,Thom 5inweU Susan Cooper, and Linda Schaffer. MEMBERS ABSENT: None, STAFF IN ATTENDANCE: Eric Lashley — Library Director and Susan Watkins — Housing Coordinator The meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m. by Chair Cooper. Regular Agenda A. 4softhe deadline, nopersons were signed uptospeak onitems other than what was posted onthe agenda. Nuaction required. B. Consideration and mossible action — Lindsay Cooper, Chair. Motion by Thielmann; second by Sinwell to approve the January 7, 2020 Library Advisory Board minutes. Approved 6-0. Chair rearranged the agenda to allow Susan Watkins to address item D on the agenda. D. Presentation discussion a ossible action on the draft 2nqn Cr Plan Uodate. —Susan Watkins, AICP, Housing Coordinator. Watkins presented a PowerPoint of the highlights of the draft 2030 Comprehensive Plan Update (attached). Watkins noted there would be an open house at the Library on February 12 from 4:30- 7:00p.m. She reported the plan would be presented to the P & Z Board on February 18 and would go to Council on February 25. Final approval isscheduled for March l0. Board members asked Watkins questions about how the City planned ongetting input from awide array ofresidents. Kelley told Watkins about ateacher who took a job within G8Dbut had toleave due tothe high cost ofhousing, 0oaction required. C.-Eric Lashley, Library Director, Lashley presented Cooper with agift and card from the library staff. Lashley and the Board thanked Cooper for her years of service on the Library Advisory Board. No action required. E. Linda Schaffer, Board member. Schaffer distributed some information about the Anne Frank exhibit which will be held at the Library April 18 — May 22. The exhibit istitled "Let K4eReK8yseU"and is from the Anne Frank Center for Mutual Respect. The exhibit will teach the effects uf racism through 30 large panels that will be displayed in the Library. The exhibit will also include a model of the secret annex, plus a 30 minute DVD that will be screened throughout the exhibit's duration. The exhibit is being sponsored by Congregation Havurah Shalom and they are working hard to schedule school tours. Kelley and Susan Cooper asked for information and said they would try and help promote the tours within GISD. Schaffer announced there would be an opening reception on April 18 and a1a|k open tothe public onApril 19 by Rita Rubinstein, a Holocaust Survivor. 0oaction required, F. — Eric Lashley, Library Director. Lashley presented aPowe/Puintto the Board (attached). ThePowerPuirk presentation noted circulation equaled 39\868 which was an additional 4,303 2,454. Overdrive e-books equaled 3,628 and clownloaclable audiobooks equaled 2,007. The Library added 1,588 and withdrew 938 items. Lashley reported Council will reappoint Kelley and Sinwell to the Board on February 11 and the Mayor is nominating Kelley tubethe upcoming Chair. Lashley noted the staff are now tracking study room usage interms oftotal reservations aswell asthe number of individuals. Staff are using the information to determine how patrons are using the rooms. Is it mostly individuals or groups? Lashley showed aphoto ofthe new 81h Street parking lot and noted the City still needs to install landscaping and stripe the lot, He listed a number ofupcoming library programs and reported the vandalized lobby chairs had been replaced with new vinyl chairs, Lashley reported volunteer Pam Caputo worked anumberofdaysinthe|Dbbyto register voters inJanuary. Over the years, Pam and her husband Cobby had registered hundreds of voters at the Library. Lashley met with representatives ofthe Georgetown Farmers Market Association and are intalks k/locate the Farmers Market to the new Library parking lot on 8 th Street, Lashley asked Sinwell to speak about the AARPTax Assistance, Sinwell informed the Board AARP would be providing volunteers to assist residents with filing their taxes this year at the Library. Lashley reported the WOWlmobile had been damaged in an accident when the bookmobile drove under a low hanging awning. Community Outreach Librarian Sheri Miklaski was able to use the City's Visitor Center van to deliver tuthe bookmobile stops while the bus was being repaired. The City expects toreceive the new Home Delivery van during February, Lashley read patron comments for January from the library's suggestion box.
