The Main Street Advisory Board of the City of Georgetown, Texas, met on Friday , February 11, 2011.
Board Members Present:
Connie Watson, chair; Ki Browning; Denise Jimenez, vice chair; Linda McCalla
Board Members Absent:
Mike Burton, secretary; Lucas Adams; Rusty Winkstern
Staff Present:
Laurie Brewer, Asst. Director of Finance; Robbie Wyler, Historic District Planner; Shelly Hargrove, Main
Street Manager
Minutes
Regular Meeting
1.The meeting was called to order at 8:43 a.m. by Board Chair Connie Watson.
2.Connie moved to approve the January 14
th
meeting minutes, Denise seconded.
Minutes were approved by all board members present.
3.Laurie Brewer reviewed the City of Georgetown 2010 Citizen Quality of Life Survey
with the board pointing out the info related to economic development and
downtown. She then gave an overview of the budget process and how board
feedback is needed on a consolidated Budget Input for Boards & Commission form
by April 15 .
4.Robbie Wyler talked about the new toy store , All Things Kids, and their sign
application as well as changes to the Old Town residential guidelines in regards to
houses being demoed. Robbie mentioned HARC wants to set up meetings with a
representative from all the downtown organizations including Main St., DGA,
Chamber, etc.
5.Staff Report given by Gene Richards and Shelly:
·Gene Richards reported on the winery recruitment progress in regards to three
site visits made to Georgetown by Texas wineries, and a staff visit to one of the
Hill Country wineries. He has had much more success with face-to-face
meetings than emailing or calling. The City of Georgetown will be involved with
the TWGGA conference and tradeshow this year in San Marcos in March .
·Shelly reported on the Swirl advertisements in Austin Monthly magazine and in
Community Impact newspaper. She also mentioned the upcoming required board
training after the March 11 board meeting that will be facilitated by Asst. Texas
Main Street Coordinator. It should end before noon.
6.This meeting agenda was recessed to call the second agenda to order at 9:50 a.m.
Navita Elwell with Accents on the Square presented her sign grant for up to
$483.00 since her total expenses are $967.21 including installation. The signage
includes her new logo on a window sign, canopy hanging sign and main sign
attached to the brackets on top of her canopy. Linda Mccalla moved to accept
the sign grant for up to $483, Denise Jimenez seconded. All board members
present approved the motion. This agenda was adjourned at 10:01 a.m. to return
to the first board meeting agenda.
7.Committee Reports:
a.Promotion: Denise reported on progress being made on the Georgetown
Swirl. Final details are being ironed out with the committed restaurants and
wineries since more are needed.
b.Design: no report
c.Economic Restructuring: Connie mentioned the Breakfast Bites roundtable
with Judy Lester, Rusty Winkstern and Sandra Dronet. The next quarterly
one is tentatively set for April 20 possibly on the topic of synergy and cross
promoting or customer service (Kirk).
d.Organization: brief discussion of looking at doing a second floor downtown
residential tour during May’s Preservation Month
e.Joint Arts & Culture: no report
8.The meeting was adjourned at 10:25 a.m. The next meeting will be at 8:30 a.m. on
March 11 at the Williamson Co. Courthouse.
