Members Present: Bob Mathis, Jean Houck, Robert Laemel, Simone Pollard Members Absent: Staff Present: Randy Morrow, Kimberly Garrett, Eric Lashley, Jill Kellum Minutes Regular Meeting 1. Introduction of Parks and Recreation Board Subcommittee Subcommittee Members introduced themselves and gave input to the subcommittee. Bob Mathis, Bob Laemel, Jean Houck, Eric Lashley, Christi Adams, Becky Laemel 2. Discussion of how and why the Friends of Georgetown Parks and Recreation is being formed Laemel explained that the subcommittee came together to help people who could not afford to participate in the programs and activities available in Georgetown Parks and Recreation. Laemel had the audience introduce themselves. The whole concept of the Friends of Georgetown Parks and Recreation is to help the community. Laemel explained that the Friends need to get a life of its own so it can exist without the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board , since the board members can not hold office on the Friends of the Georgetown Parks and Recreation board. 3. Introduction of stakeholders and guests Stakeholders and guests introduced themselves. The following attended the meeting. Paul Lawrence, Rebecca Gibson-Lae, Dale Huggins, Christi Adams, Tom Swift, Barbara Owens, Darla McDonnell, Daniel Dance, Ron Swain, Bob Mathis, Derek Timourian, David Houck, Jean Houck, Bob Laemel, Simone Pollard 4. Discussion of how the Friends of Georgetown Parks and Recreation can assist in supporting the Georgetown community Open discussion Houck explained that the ground work has been started with the mission statement, bylaws, and membership dues. Laemel explained there may be some grants available that the City of Georgetown Parks and Recreation may not be able to apply for that the Friends of Georgetown Parks and Recreation could apply for. Laemel explained they are looking to start a board of directors and volunteers. Garrett stated they are looking to obtain a volunteer group from the Friends of Georgetown Parks and Recreation to help with Special Events monitor the halls and the weight room at the Recreation Center and help with Tennis Tournaments. Ron Swain asked what the benefit of being a friend is. Swift stated that the benefit is volunteering and seeing what you helped with. It is a matter of giving back to the community and feeling good about it. Dale Huggins asked if it was necessary to start a new nonprofit or if maybe going under an umbrella group like Chisholm Trail Communities would be better. Tom Swift explained that it is more powerful to have its own entity. Eric Lashley stated the process of filing the paperwork is fairly easy and explained the steps. The next meeting will be Monday, April 5, 2010 7:30 pm at the Parks and Recreation Community Room.
