HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes_Funding Committee_10.12.2000MINUTES OF THE MEETING of Citizen Committee on Community Needs and Funding Thursday, October 12, 2000 Call to Order The meeting was called to order by Chairman Pondrom at 6:35 p.m. Roll Call 17 members were present: Anderson, Benold, Brown, Carlton, Dubcak, Evans, Harris, Heidemann, Kirby, La Grone, Logue, Martin, Philpott, Pondrom, Rosenthal, Turner, Vogler Consideration of minutes of Meeting of October 5, 2000 Motion by La Grone, second by Evans to approve the minutes of September 28, 2000. The minutes of October 5 were corrected to read that the meeting with the financial consultants would be on Monday, October 30, at the Council Chamber and that Claire Vogler would bring members of the Library Advisory Board to the meeting on Thursday, November 2 at the Police Department Training Room to provide information regarding the need for a new library facility. Motion by Benold, second by La Grone to approve the minutes of October 5, 2000, as corrected. Report from Jim Briggs, Director of Community-Owned Utilities Briggs gave the slide presentation developed by HDR Engineering, Inc. that was presented to the City Council on June 27, 2000, giving projections of undesirable, tolerable, and good (traffic) flow for streets and roads in Georgetown. Discussion, questions, and possible action regarding Transportation Report The Committee discussed the method of predicting the budgets that would be necessary to make the noted improvements. Rundell reported the percentage of City property tax that is dedicated to streets. County Commissioner David Hays was invited to share the transportation improvements included in the upcoming County bond issue. Briggs distributed a table of future roadway projects showing the City’s percentage of cost participation. Tim Weight of the Texas Department of Transportation explained the methods for influencing highway project priorities. It was estimated that approximately $2.5 million would be needed to fulfill the City’s obligations for road improvements. Rundell noted that a ½ cent sales tax would produce approximately $1.7 million revenue. Discussion of related needs This item was not handled.
