Yhe November inectin of the Geor, etorxi Library Board of Trustees
was called to order by Secretary Jacob. The minutes of the October meetint°
,acre approved as presented.

problems/challenges of the 80's for libraries. Some are:

Co-operation amorw- lit_)rari(?s was the :solution stressed most as the key to -
survival in the 80"s .
rlacob also reported receiving; letters, from Lieutenant Covernor hobby
and Speaker of the House Clayton ac%nowledCing receipt of the Board's
resolution supporting :;ll per capita funding.
Hine ;ham' s Friends report was read to the Board. A consensus of
the Board felt that:
a.) boob drop inside the buildin!; w--s -the orily solution to the current
problems with the autopage
b.} delaying opening of library till 12.00 noon two'days a week would only
confuse patrons and riot increase library hours
c . } reserve lists involve toc much time for staff and tie: up book: for -too
long; of periods
d. } copy machine was a low priority .item for library --such thinLs as inside
'book drop arevpriority items
c. } Friends should be -sincerely thanked for the monthly book purchases
and letters written supporting 1 per capita fundinjS
f. } Friends should publicize mcetin , wore in advance to increase attendance
(possibly call every member and/or establish a regular meetin;; schedule.)

There was no lone ran;,e plannin,; conii-Attee's report due to Gold's
absence.
Philpot reported -ihat she and Williams have worked out a coda of
record keepin„ :for staff time sheets" From now on they will show when
time off is due to sick leave, vacation, emer-eney leave, or whatever.
i'hilpot also reported to the 'Board that :Bill . erritt"s ' estimate for
steat.,i cleaning the carpets was $158. Jacob moved and Vasquez seconded the
motion that I'1erritt be hired. Jacob and Vasquez were instructed to mect
with Leo good to see if the City Council could pay for this.
The board spent a great deal of time discussing the difficult matter
of expanding library hours while straying within the current budget. The
bol-Drd reacned no decisions but agonized over possible alternativess
staggered work hours for aai(l employees, volunteer staff and what
their duties would be, etc. Oliver was asked to check with other
iits7_-arles about staffing schedtales and men wort{ up some :schedules for
the Board's December meeting.
L: stly, the 13o!�rd decided, at the December meeting, to poll all
the members about their desire to continue to serve on the Board. Some
of the Board members (Harper, Jncob, rind Vastiuez) have terms ending on
Dec. 31st, 1980,while others .are experiencing work conflicts.
There being no .Further business;, the meeting was .adjourned at ll t20 a,m.
The next meeting is December 3 nt 10t00 a.m. and all members are urged to
attend this most important meeting.
