Georgetown Area Public Library
Library Board Meeting - March 71 1984, 10:00 A.M.
Members present: Seever, Elliott, Sullivan, Weir, Williams, McCollough,
Donner, Philpot, Winters, Gold
Mrs. Barbara Seever called the meeting to order and welcomed our new
members. She asked for a reading of the minutes of the previous meeting.
The minutes were approved as read.
Mrs. Winters gave a financial report that included budget monies and
book money.
Mrs. Seever reported that $144.00 was spent to promote the Bond Issue.
Mrs. Philpot reported book circulation and gifts and memorials.
Mr. Williams will report the amount of the Building Fund at the April Mtg.
A report from the Nominating Committee presented the following slate of
Officers for the Library Board:
President: Barbara Seever
Vice President: Parker McCollough
Secretary: Irene Elliott
Treasurer: Everett Williams
Mrs. Weir moved that this slate of officers be accepted. Mrs. Seever asked
00 if there were any nominations from the floor. There were none. The motion
was seconded and passed.
The President asked the Secretary to write a letter to thank Mrs. Jo Sloan
for her creative posters to promote the Library Bond; a letter thanking
Mr. John King at Heritage Printing who donated half the cost of the paper
for the flyers; and a letter thanking Mr. Kevin Clear of Georgetown Weekly
who inserted 5000 flyers in his newspaper.
Mrs. Weir discussed setting up a program for classes for illiteracy.
Mr. Williams moved that Mrs. Weir be allowed to pursue the illiteracy
information and give her report to the board. Mr. McCollough seconded
the motion. Motion passed.
Mr. Williams gave a report on the Georgetown Library salaries and other
expenses that will not be presented to Mr. Leo Wood, the City Manager,
until he requests it.
Mr. Gold reported that citizens are requesting that the Library be kept
open one night a week. Mr. McCollough thinks that with the growth of our
city, that we should put this request in our budget to the City Council.
He moved that the Budget Committee include additional funds to keep the
Library open one night a week. Mrs. Dorian Sullivan seconded the motion.
The motion passed. There was some discussion about the danger to the
person working in the Library at night, and that the City should provide
protection.

Mrs. Seever suggested that the Library Board should increase the number
of members. She reminded us that each member should carry with us an
obligation to do more than just attend a meeting once a month. We could
also have permanent committees, such as Public Relations and a Citizens
Advisory Committee. The By -Laws should be studied and revised.
Mrs. Weir moved that Mrs. Philpot be authorized to purchase more stacks
to shelve books. Mrs. Sullivan seconded the motion. Motion passed.
The meeting was adjourned.
The next meeting will be April 4, 1984 at 10:00 A.M.
