Library Board Meeting - April 4, 1984, 10:00 A.M.
Members present: Seever, Brown, Elliott, Weir, Williams, Bonner, Valdez
Mrs. Barbara Seever called the meeting to order and introduced
Mrs. Burma Dean Gadison, aide at Adult Learning Center.
Mrs. Seever asked for a reading of the minutes of the previous meeting.
The minutes were approved as read.
Mrs. Kay Brown substituted for Mrs. Verne Philpot who was in Corpus Christi
attending the State Library meeting.
Mr. Everett Williams gave a skeleton financial report as of March 30, 1984.
Balance as of 2/29: $6,438.88; deposits of $4,142.16; total $10,581.04,
less disbursements of $4,091.45, leaving a balance of $6,489.59.
Mrs. Weir talked to the members of the Board about illiteracy in Williamson
County - one out of three persons. Mrs. Gadison gave some facts about the
illiteracy program in Georgetown. The adult must be seventeen years of age.
The program is on Tuesday and Thursday nights from 5:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M.
The program is taught by Mr. Connie Venable, who is assisted by Mrs. Gadison.
Mrs. Weir suggested that the Library could send books to help the program.
Nothing was decided.
Mr. Williams gave a report on the Georgetown Public Library budget for
00 1984-1985. A copy of budget is attached. Mrs. Weir moved that we accept
the report. The motion was seconded and passed.
Mrs. Brown gave a report on the additional book stacks that are needed
for the Library. E1 Paso has shelves for sale. We are looking into that.
We are also to receive a quote from American Desk.
Mrs. Seever suggested that the Library give away books at the Easter Egg
Giveaway on April 21, 1984.
The meeting was adjourned.
The next meeting will be on May 2, 1984 at 10:00 A.M.
