A Members Present: Winfred Bonner, Nancy Snead, Verne Philpot, Marjorie Youngman, Gwen Morrison, Dorian Sullivan, Nancy Benold, Parker McCollough Visitors: Frank Reed, Bill Gooch Old Business: Architects will present design development in July Groundbreaking - December 1986 Start construction - January 1987 Completion date - December 1987 Marjorie Youngman, Gwen Morrison, and Nancy Snead made presentation on concerns and issues during bond campaign: 1. Hours of operation 3. Services 2. Amount of staff 4. General planning Will give a more detailed plan in June. Committee met with City Manager and are working on process of making Library part of City structure. City auditors had expressed concern about structure of Library. Bill Gooch reported Southwestern is contemplating going on fully automated system. May be possibility of pooling automation system. Benefit would be to put certain services on computer, therefore relieving personnel to be more efficient in their jobs. Would cost money up front but would be a savings over the long run. There is strong possibility of receiving waiver on federal money owed on present building. Not likely we will get Title II money because of City population figures. New Business: County Historical Commission wrote letter concerning repository for archival materials. Board will consider and make decision on this at a later date. Issues - Police Dept. wanted parking in front of Library because fear people will park at Police Station and walk to Library. Bill Hidell - Board agreed to go with inside sprinkler system. Board approve schematic drawings with changes talked about. Meeting adjourned at 12:30. NEXT MEETING - TUESDAY, JUNE 3, 1986 AT 11:00 A.M. Respectfully submitted, Dorian Sullivan, Secretary THE WILLIAMSON COUNTY HISTORICAL COMMISSION Laverne Faubion, Chairman 712 Myrtle Street Georgetown, Texas 78626 512 863-2179 April 19, 1986 0 9 2 J. Parker McCollough Chairman, Georgetown Library Board 1107 Main Street Georgetown, Texas 78626 Dear Judge McCollough: Because space in county facilities is at present non-existant and future space is, at best, uncertain, the members of the Williamson County Historical Commission have requested that I advise the Georgetown Library Board of this commission's long -felt need of space for a depository for archival materials and that I respectfully request your Board to consider allocating space in the new library facilities to house a collection of historic valuables such as documents, books, maps and photographs. Such material would require only minimal space, but needs to be pre- served in a safe place, in a methodical manner, under lock and key, where its use could be monitored by qualified personnel and its future availability would be assured. If, before making a decision, members of the Library Board would be interested in touring a facility which now serves (in minimal space) as an archival depository, Mrs Clara Scarbrough has offered to accompany members of your Board on such a tour. Because Georgetown is the county seat of Williamson County and because so much of our material pertains to the Georgetown area, our commission believes that an archival repository should be maintained in Georgetown. We would be most grateful if the Library Board could see fit to consider our request with favor. Sincerely, Z_ /;1 Laverne Faubion Chairman, WCHC
