Library Board Room
Present: Mary Beth Huba(presiding), John Duer, Robert Horick, Morton King,
Jean Marie Mendez, Judi Shanklin, Mary Pat McLauglin and Tresa Long(late).
Absent: Pat Ball(recovering from operation), Tommi Spence(in hospital).
The meeting was called to order at 12:05 p.m..
Minutes of May meetin approved on motion by Morton King, seconded by John
��^e m J-�uer. Implementation of I^ 2 by TreasureYwas postponed by common consent pending
search of past minutes an other records.
2. There were no Citizen comments.
3. Announcements: a. President Mary Beth Huba announced that her work next
school year would make it impossible for her to attend a 12:00 to 1:00 p.m.
meeting. She will have to resign unless meeting time is changed. Action on
change of meeting time was placed on July agenda. b. The Director, Mary Pat
McLaughlin reported that the Texas Library Association plans to issue members
of the Legislature °" Library Card good in all the State Libraries and request
our cooperation. On motion by Judi Shanklin, seconded by Robert Horick, Georgetown
Public Library cooperation was approved with John Duer and Jean Marie Mendez
abstaining.
4. J.M. Mendez reported that the Long Range Planning Committee is meeting regularly,
intending to present a proposed plan in December. Public meetings for citizen
imput are being held, with letters of invitation sent to target groups. The June/
26th meeting at 12:30 p.m. here is open to all citizens. The E!en wl carry a
brief announcement and Jean Marie Mendez moved, Duer seconded that the Board
authorize $47.60 for a Display Add., motion lost, with Horick and Long abstaining.
The Director will ask Cablevision to run the same copy free.
5. John Duer reported for the By -Laws Revision Committee that he has prepared a
draft based on his study of the old By -Laws, City Ordinance and suggestions by King.
The Director and King were given copies to study prior to Committee meeting.

6. The Director presented and reviewed her 1991-93 Budget request to the City
staff and Council(copy attached). After questions, discussion and suggestions
the Director's proposal was approved in principle(subject to modification by
her based on discussion with her superior), on motion by Shanklin, seconded by
Duer, Mendez abstaining.
7. Discussion and action on the Material Selection Policy was, by common consent,
tabled until the July meeting.
8. Director's Report: a. The Director reported that she had used the authority
given her to spend $550.00 for a set of Capital letters for the Ellison lettering
machine and $95.00 for Children's program. b. She is getting an estimate for an
automatic opener for the courtyard door as part of needed repairs and to improve
disability access. c. Copies of the City Services Survey pertaining to the
Library(attached)were distributed. d. Copies of the T.S.L. Handbook for Advisory
Boards were distributed to all members.
The meeting adjourned at 1:15 p.m.

MONTHLY REPORT
LIBRARY SERVICES DIRECTOR
MAY 1992
PERSONNEL
Helen McHugh has quit regular employment with the Library in
order to pursue some projects of her own. She will be available
for temporary work if we need her to cover for illness or
vacation.
Esther Wilson has been hired to fill the position. Esther has
been working as a temporary at the Circulation desk.
Perley Morrell has been assigned as the Library's second Green
Thumb worker. He will be shelving and assisting with other
projects for Circulation.,
ADMINISTRATION
Several of the Library forms and hand-outs have been translated,
into Spanish by Ruth Gonzalez of the Utility Office and John
Duer, Library Board member. The forms, including the Library
Card registration form and information sheet, and the
announcement for the Summer Reading Program, should make it
easier for many citizens to know about Library Services.
PLANNING
The Long an Planning Committee has been gathering background
information on current services and usage. The next step is a
community profile and projection and input from various members
of the community.
PROGRAMMING
May always means a large number of tours. 1038 children attended
programs or toured the library with their teachers, including all
list graders from Annie Ptirl Elementary school.
Lee Sparks has completed a two page bibliography for expectant
parents. Copies were distributed at the Hospital's Health Fair
and will be supplied to the parent education progr,am as well as
at the Library,
Most of the programming time went toward final preparations for,
Summer Reading which will begin June 11,
