HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes_LAB_02.11.1992GEORGETOWN PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD MEETING February 11, 1992 12:00 noon Library Board Room Present: Judi Shanklin, Jean Marie Mendez, Tresa Long, Tomi Spence, Mary Beth Huba (presiding), Morton King, John Duer, Mary Pat McLaughlin, Robert Horick (arrived late). Absent: Pat Ball The meeting was called to order at 12:10 1. Jean Marie Mendez moved that the minutes be approved as mailed, Judi Shanklin seconded, the motion passed unanimously. 2. Judi Shanklin presented the treasurer's report. Robert Horick arrived during this discussion. J.M. Mendez moved to accept the report as submitted, Morton King seconded the motion, which passed unanimously. J.M. Mendez suggested that a running total of funds available for computers be kept on each treasurer's report, which should be made quarterly. 3. J.M. Mendez volunteered to chair a Long Range Planning committee, consisting of Robert Horick, Mary Beth Huba, John Duer and Tomi Spence. Committee meetings will be open to all Board members. Committee meeting times will be announced to Board members. 4. The Library Meeting Room and Board Room Policy was changed (motion made by J. Duer, seconded by M. King, passed unanimously after Judi Shanklin left at 12:55) to read as follows: "Reservations may not be made more than 60 days in advance. A group may not reserve a room more than one time per month. Exceptions to these reservation rules may be made for institutes, seminars or education courses held by the Library, the City of Georgetown or established educational institutions, or for activities of the Friends of the Georgetown Public Library." After much discussion, it was decided that a doctor from the Family Chiropractic Clinic be allowed to hold a seminar on the proper care of the back in the library meeting room, with the provision that no advertising materials be distributed at the meeting. It must also be clearly understood that the seminar is not sponsored or endorsed by the Georgetown Public Library. John Duer will look over the Library Meeting Room and Board Room Policy from a legal standpoint, and will bring any suggestions he has for changes or revisions to a later meeting. 5. Decisions on accepting art donations for display from the public will go through the Board. Mary Pat McLaughlin will make the final decision as to which donations are acceptable for circulation (within previously determined guidelines). p.2 of 2 Library Board Meeting February 11, 1992 6. John Duer will help Mary Pat with a set of guidelines for patrons. 7. Mary Pat reported a $500.00 donation from the Scarborough family for a particular selection of books, as well as three memorial gifts totaling $40.00, each indicating a general area of choice.
