HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes_LAB_11.12.1991• GEORGETOWN PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD MEETING November 12, 1991 12: 00 p.m. Georgetown Public Library Board Room Present: Morton King, Jean Marie Mendez, Tomi Spence, Pat Ball, Nancy Snead (presiding), Robert Horick, Mary Beth Huba, Mary Pat McLaughlin Absent: Judi Shanklin, Amelia Washington 1. The minutes of the October 8, 1991 meeting were unanimously approved as mailed. (M. King moved, P.. Horick seconded). 2. Nancy Snead read a thank you note from Tomi Spence for the flowers sent her by the Board during a recent i11nP,�_ 3. Mary Pat reported a 5°1 increase on the rental price of the security system (effective with the December invoice), making the price approximately $180.14 (currently $171.56). Payment of the increase was approved after a motion by Pat Ball and a second by J.M. Mendez. Mary Beth Huba abstained from the vote as she arrived at 12:15, and did not hear all the discussion. Motion carried. 4. Mary Pat reported a $200.00 donation from the Georgetown 0]3timists Club for Children's Book Week, as well as a $20.00 donation. J,M. Mendez moved to accept the funds and approve their use at the library director's discretion. M.B. Huba seconded. Passed u;:ianimously. M. King moved for approval of the purchases of the Junior On File Series and the Encyclopedia of Wildlife for the children's reference section. Robert Horick seconded. Passed unanimously. M. King moved that the Library Services Director have the authority to make decisions about additions to the library collection within the current guidelines of the Board. J.M. Mendez seconded. Passed unanimously. 5. Nancy Snead has been addressing the problem of street signs indicating the location of the library. Since 29 (University St.) and 81 (Austin Ave.) are highways, signs come under the province of the State Highway Department. Nancy has been in touch with them, but is still waiting for a reply. 6. The Art Guild will produce and donate Christmas ornaments on storybook themes to decorate a tree in the children's area. The Art G,iild also will buy art prints to be checked out of the library. page 2 of 2 The book "Dalhart Winberg, Artist of Texas" was donated to the library by the Winberg family. The front desk of the library will be rearranged to include a section for wheelchair access. In addition, one or two tables in the library will be adapted to meet wheelchair height requirements. The library will have an amnesty week, possibly the first week in January, for the penalty -free return of overdue books. 7. Mary Pat began discussions on long range planning, and on collection development. She asked the Board to consider methods for establishing plans for five to ten years in the future. She also presented the Library Bill of Rights as adopted by the ALA Council to Board members for consideration. Morton hying suggested the January meeting be planned around discussion of long range plans.
