It was noted that the State cut `TLS' budqet by $4,400, which will effect the holiday ay° pre-school praqram andl the larqe print qeneral information packet about CTLS was also distributed at the raa r tint , there are no dues t CTLS, but each Library must be maintained by it's City at a support level at least equal try threes year averaqe to be l it i rl for C3"LS. CTLS matches the d i t: ya ' s - book budqet up -to 5 t> :3. We received three bids for a new security system. The first bid, from CheckPaint, was for a radio frequency system, which is the same as the system we currently have. We cite not want this type of systemy as it does not work for us as we are across from a police station. M.Kinq moved (P.Ball 2nd) that we accept the Knoqo bid for the double-qate system at a cost of $12,710, to be paid for by the Bd.Trustees funds. Motion passed. P.Ball moved (N.Snead 2nd) that the Board make a formal request to the City for the proceeds from the disposition of the old gates to be applied directly to the Ilbrary if allowed by Law. Motion passed. 4. The purchase of the "Where's Waldo?" children's book, at a cost of $16 (donated by Hardy's), and another unspecified book at a cost of $10 (memorial for Harry Fahrenbruch) was approved (moved by MB.Huba, 3.Mendex 2nd). 5. a)The Dynix modem quit, but has been replaced. b)Natalie Martin resiqned. It was noted that Ms.Martin commit suicide one week after resigninq, and that the staff has been dealinq with this loss. c) Linda Cisneros(volunteer) and Mp.McLaughlin attended the Spanish Book Fair in Houston on Sept.14. d)Southwestern's TEACH organization is interested in providinq an after -school homework assistance program. e)The Freinds' Mystery Niqht was held Oct.4,5,&6: it was a sell -out and a great success! f)Clarification of the Library card policy: 1)Personal property, such as a helicopter, is not real property, and therefore payment of personal property tax does not qualify for a free LIbrary card. 2)"College student" refers to any college student, not gust Southwestern students. q)It was again noted that new residents have a difficult time provinq residency. The HVAC has had two problems this month. Several times the breakers tripped and partially reset themselves for no visible reason, That may have be caused by the more serious problem foun� later. One of the fan motor mounts buckled, Then the fan fell, it cut compressor coils releasing oil an& freon. it is temporarily repaired, pending more permanent repairs. We have also enperienced a problem with mold growing on several books. The City's Load Manager is noing to help us investigate humidity control before we have to start running the HVAC 24 hours a day and doubling our electric bill. COMPUTER Peg spent a weehena installing an upgrade to Ultimate, the oPerating sntem for the Dynix computer. Next we have to install. a second upgrade to the Dynix safware to match the new Ultimate version. James Wills from the Water Department has been working withuz while on light duty assignment after a hneo injury and 3urgery. He began during the period when we were without our evening Library Aide staff member. He is a quick learney and great with the patrons. We could not have managei without him. D,-awn, 111-imphries has joined us as our library Aide. Peg, joy and I attended a Dynin wan}doh obi in Dallas on the new features of the now Dynin upSraie. We leLrned a great deal about new features, as well as o1d, jut little useat features. Peg ottendea a Dynix users group meeting in San Antonio to voto for new features we want on the uyZvado aftor nezt. Peg, Pat an& 1 attended the TLA Dig toict !I! meeting in Waco. We attenaed sort hworkshops on government documents, long range planning, cataloging , and stress manaSement. This year's grant will tOtZil $8,786 for books. In addition we gain continued use of two PC computers, participation in and use of the C.aTaLvSt catalog of holdings in area libraries, consulting services for professionals in various areas, free worhshops on different subJects, and the new grant listed below. The Literacy Grant application submitted in August has been partially funde,3. We will receive special Shelving to use with our small sized literacy material--. The cost 01 4 --'I,ese shelves is $650.
