July 29, 1991, 12:00 Noon
Mary Beth Huba, Vice Chair, called the meeting to order at 12:10 p.m. in
the Community Meeting Room. Others present were: Pat Ball, Bob Horick,
Morton King, Jean-Marie Mendez, Amelia Washington, and Mary Pat McLaughlin,
Director of Library Services. Absent: Judi Shanklin, Nancy Snead,
Tomi Spence.
Agenda Item 1
1. The Director presented the 1991-92 budget with projections into
1992-93, together with related Means statements through 1991-96.
Detailed discussion covered all items, emphasizing purchase of a new
security system and contents of the means statements and the headings
of budget pages. King moved and Horick seconded that the Board
support the final form of the Library budget as prepared by the
Director on the basis of the discussion. Passed unanimously.
2. Priority of the 1991-92 budget items was discussed reaching agreement
on the following ranks:
1st: Additions to collections.
2nd: Provide handicapped access to computer catalog.
3rd: Purchase of safety equipment and furniture.
4th: Addition to staff.
3. To aid Board members in future budgeting, the director will provide
a if of desirable percentage allocations of total funds
among such categories as collection, services, staff, equipment,
maintenance; together with the budget of several public libraries
in cities comparable to Georgetown.
Agenda Item 2
A preliminary proposal from 3-M for replacement of the present security
system was reviewed and discussed. The purchase was authorized previously.
The Director will now negotiate the more favorable bid to be acted on at
the next meeting.
